Covering Merrylands and the Parramatta region.
Most of the work we do in Merrylands is repairs on aging systems and split installs in older homes and units.

Merrylands has a broad mix of housing and a busy commercial strip along Cumberland Highway, and our work here reflects that mix. We repair older Carrier, Mitsubishi, and Actron units in the brick homes, install splits in homes that have never had cooling, and occasionally replace aging ducted systems in the larger brick properties. Ben handles the repairs and diagnostics; Noah covers split installs.

30+ Years

Merrylands was mostly built in the 1950s to 1970s - full brick and brick veneer homes on blocks around 500 to 650 square metres, with some newer townhouses and units above shops along Cumberland Highway and near the station. The older homes have the roof space for ducted, but a lot of the systems installed in the 1990s are now due for replacement.

Older Homes and Units in Merrylands - What Works

Merrylands is one of those suburbs where the housing stock is genuinely diverse - you have older full-brick homes with deep roof cavities that suit ducted well, right next to fibro homes or units above shops where splits are the only practical option. Split system installation merrylands is our most common install type, but ducted replacements on aging systems are a regular part of the work too.

For a 3 to 4 bedroom brick home in Merrylands, a 10kW to 12kW Panasonic ducted system runs $8,500 to $10,500 installed. For homes where ducted is not practical, a 5kW split in the main living area and a 2.5kW in each bedroom gives full coverage for $5,500 to $7,000 depending on the number of rooms. Air Conditioning Repairs Merrylands

Air conditioning repairs merrylands is a significant part of our workload. The suburb has a lot of systems from the late 1990s and early 2000s - mostly Carrier, Mitsubishi, and Actron - and a lot of them are developing the typical end-of-life faults: capacitor failures, refrigerant leaks, seized fan motors, zone motor issues on the ducted systems. Ben does the diagnosis work and gives you a straight call on whether repair makes sense or whether replacement is better value. Labour at around $125 per hour, all parts with a 12-month warranty. Merrylands Ducted Replace - 10kW Panasonic 3-Zone

Problem

Customer in a 1965 full-brick home in Merrylands had a 1995 Carrier ducted system that had lost cooling across one zone and the unit was freezing up on hot days. The family had been running portable fans for two summers.

Diagnosis

Compressor was struggling and a zone motor had failed. At 29 years old, the system was not worth repairing. We replaced it with a 10kW Panasonic 3-zone ducted system using the existing ductwork. Total cost $8,800.

Merrylands Shop Unit - 5kW Daikin Split Install

Problem

Owner of a unit above a shop on Cumberland Highway in Merrylands had no air conditioning. The building had strata rules about where outdoor units could be located on the rear of the building.

Diagnosis

We installed a 5kW Daikin wall-split in the living area with the condensing unit mounted on a strata-approved bracket at the rear. Lineset run through the external wall. Job done in half a day. Total cost $2,500.

Merrylands Mitsubishi Refrigerant Leak and Regas

Problem

2004 Mitsubishi split system in a Merrylands home was not cooling. Previous tradesperson had regassed it twice in two years without finding the leak.

Diagnosis

Found a slow leak at the indoor flare connection - the nut had been undertorqued on the original install. Repaired the flare, pressure-tested, and regassed to spec. System has been holding charge since. Total cost $290.

FAQs

Air Conditioning Merrylands - Common Questions

FAQs

For a typical 3-bedroom brick home in Merrylands, a 5kW split for the living area runs around $2,500 installed. Full ducted is $8,500 to $11,000 for a 10kW to 12kW system. A lot of the older homes here have 1990s to early-2000s ducted systems that are ready for replacement.

Depends on the age and what is wrong. Systems from before 2005 with major faults – compressor issues, multiple zone failures, or refrigerant that will not hold – are usually better replaced than repaired. Systems from 2005 onwards with a single fault like a capacitor or fan motor are usually worth repairing. We assess on the visit and give you a straight answer.

Yes. We do strata-compliant split installs in Merrylands regularly. You need strata approval for the outdoor unit placement, but once that is sorted the install is straightforward. We know the requirements and can advise on the right bracket setup before we start.

Air Conditioning Advice for Merrylands Homeowners

The older full-brick homes in Merrylands hold heat well in winter but get seriously hot in summer. A 10kW to 12kW ducted system covers a 3 to 4 bedroom home properly - splits can work, but ducted gives more even airflow through the solid brick walls. If you have an older system that keeps breaking down, track how much you have spent on repairs over the last two years. If it is more than $800 to $1,000, a replacement quote is usually worth getting. A new system typically pays for itself in reliability and running costs within a few years.
