Actron Ducted Playing Up?
We'll Fix It Properly.
ActronAir not cooling, dropping zones or throwing a fault? Short version: a service call to find the fault is $250 plus GST, we quote the fix before we start, and most common Actron faults get sorted same visit. Actron is one of the three brands we install, so we carry the knowledge and common parts. Since 1991, 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews.
ActronAir is the Aussie brand - built for our summers, and the ducted systems especially are everywhere in Sydney's newer suburbs. The ESP and Que series are solid gear that responds well to proper diagnosis. Most Actron problems we see are zone control, sensors or capacitors, not the compressor.

What We See in
Sydney Actron Systems
Extreme Heat
Sydney summers push Actron condensers hard. Capacitors and fan motors cop the worst of it on 40 degree runs.
Poor Airflow
Packed filters and dirty coils choke the indoor unit. Half the weak-cooling Actrons we see just need a proper clean.
Coastal Corrosion
Salt air eats outdoor coils and cabinets near the water. Corroded coils end up leaking gas.
Heavy Usage
Actrons that run all day, every day wear parts early. Boards and sensors usually go first.

Common Actron Faults We Fix
Zone problems. The classic Actron ducted call: one room gets no air, or a zone won't open or close. That's usually a zone damper motor or the zone control wiring, not the refrigeration circuit. We diagnose the zone system separately so you don't pay for gas work you don't need.
Controller and board faults. Wall controllers that freeze or lose settings, and main boards that fault after power events. Boards run $400 to $700 with the diagnosis confirmed first - plenty of suspected board faults turn out to be wiring.
Capacitors. Outdoor unit humming but not starting on a 40 degree day is the classic capacitor failure, and Sydney summers chew through them. $150 to $180 fitted, usually same visit.
Low gas. Leaks show as weak cooling or icing. We pressure test, repair the leak and regas - top-ups run $200 to $350.
Fan motors. Outdoor fan motors cop the weather and the bearing wear shows after 8 to 12 years. $300 to $500 fitted.
ActronAir codes vary by series - ESP, Que and the older Classics each talk differently, so we work in families rather than pretending one list covers them all.
Sensor faults. The controller flags a sensor error and the system cycles badly or stops. Sensor replacement runs around $250 to $300 fitted.
Zone faults. A zone won't open, close or respond. Usually the zone damper motor or its wiring, around $300 to $350 fitted - not a refrigeration problem at all.
Communication faults. Controller, indoor and outdoor units losing contact. Restart at the breaker first. If it returns, the wiring run gets tested. $180 to $400.
Pressure protection. High or low pressure shutdowns, commonly low gas from a leak or a condenser choked with dirt. Clean or leak-repair plus regas, top-ups $200 to $350.
Whatever your controller is showing, write the exact message or number down and call us on (02) 9820 4500 - we know the Actron ranges well enough to tell you the likely fault on the phone.
Quick Actron Checks First
Restart the system at the isolator or breaker - off five minutes, back on. Check the wall controller for a fault message and write it down. Make sure the zones you want are actually open on the controller - it sounds obvious but it's a real percentage of calls. Wash or vacuum the return air filter, because a choked return strangles a ducted system. If the fault message returns after a restart, it's real - call us with it.

How We Diagnose Actron Faults
We don't rely on guesswork, and we don't swap parts until something works. We test the system properly and look at the fault as a whole - operating pressures, temperatures, electrical readings and airflow - then fix the actual cause. Here's how a Actron diagnosis runs:
00
Airflow
Filters, coils and fans first. Choked airflow mimics low gas and trips protection codes.
00
Electrical
Boards, capacitors and sensors tested properly, not guessed at. Actron codes point us to the right circuit.
00
Refrigerant
Gauges on, pressures read. If it's low it's leaked, so we find the leak before any regas.

How Long Repairs Take

Diagnosis
One visit. Gauges, electrical checks and a straight answer with a fixed quote.
Simple Fixes
Capacitors, sensors, drain clears and regas jobs are usually done the same visit.
Moderate Repairs
Fan motors and boards depend on parts. Common Actron parts we can usually get within the week.
Summer Peak Season
We won't promise what we can't deliver in a heatwave, but genuine no-cooling jobs get priority. Call early in the day.

Actron Repair
Cost Guide
Every job is quoted before we start. The $250 plus GST service call covers a proper diagnosis and a straight answer. Full pricing on our pricing page.

Why We Don't Cut Corners
There's a reason Actron owners call us back. We don't regas a leaking system and drive off. We don't swap parts on a hunch and bill you for the experiment. And we don't talk you into a new system when a $300 repair will do.
Every Actron repair starts with a proper diagnosis. Pressures, electricals, airflow, the lot. You get the actual fault and a fixed quote before we touch a spanner. If the maths says repair, we repair it with genuine parts and 12 month warranty on those parts, plus our lifetime workmanship guarantee. If the maths says replace, we'll show you why and quote both ways.
That's how a family business holds a 4.8 star rating across 280+ reviews after 35 years. No shortcuts, no surprises, no subbies.
Repair or Replace Your Actron?
Actron ducted systems are worth keeping alive - the dampers, sensors, capacitors and controllers that fail are all repairable at fair money. Under 10 years old, repair it. Past 12 to 15 with a tired compressor, we'll quote a replacement alongside the repair - we install Actron, so you get both numbers from one visit and no sales runaround.

What Happens on a Repair Visit
We start with proper diagnosis so we can identify the fault before recommending any repair. That includes checking operation, airflow, drainage, electrical readings, and the way the Actron system behaves under load.
Once the issue is confirmed, we explain the problem clearly, tell you what needs to change, and give you clear pricing before work begins. If the repair can be completed on the spot, we do it. If parts are required, we organise the next step quickly and keep it straightforward.

Almost always a zone damper motor or zone wiring fault, not the main system. Damper motor replacements typically run around $300 to $350 fitted. Quick to diagnose from the controller and the roof space.
Probably not. A humming outdoor unit that won’t start is the classic failed capacitor – a $150 to $180 fix. It’s the most common Actron fault we see in summer.
Yes. ESP and Que series ducted, the split range, and the older Classic series. Actron is an install brand for us, so we know the gear from both ends.
Yes – ActronAir is Australian-made and rated for higher ambient temperatures than most imports. When one struggles on a hot day, it’s usually a fixable fault, not the design.
A serviced Actron ducted system runs 15 years plus. Zone motors, capacitors and controllers may need attention along the way, but the core system is built for the long haul.
