Air Conditioning Service & Installation Prices
Costs Break Down
Comprehensive breakdon of various charges and costs associated with Jays Air as of 2026
We’ve been doing this since 1991. One thing people always want to know before they call is what it’s going to cost. Fair enough. Here’s what we charge for servicing, and what you’re looking at for a new install.
Air Conditioning Service Prices
We offer three service options. Pick the one that suits your situation.
Filter Service – $150
We come out, clean your filters, do a quick visual check of the system, and we’re gone. No fuss.
Good for systems that are running fine and just need a clean. Once a year keeps the airflow up and stops the system working harder than it needs to.
What’s included:
- Filter removal and clean (or replacement if required – filter cost extra)
- Visual check of indoor and outdoor unit
- Quick airflow test
- In and out, typically 30 minutes
What’s not included: Electrical testing, refrigerant readings, or diagnostic work. If we spot something that needs attention while we’re there, we’ll tell you what it is and what it would involve to sort out.
Gold Service – $250
A proper inspection. We check the electrical side and take refrigerant pressure readings so you know the system is actually doing its job, not just blowing air around.
Good for systems that are a few years old, ones that haven’t been serviced in a while, or if you’ve noticed it’s not cooling as well as it used to.
What’s included:
- Everything in the Filter Service
- Electrical checks – contactors, capacitors, amp draw on compressor and fan motors
- Refrigerant pressure readings (suction and discharge)
- Coil inspection – indoor and outdoor
- Drain line check and flush
- Written summary of findings
What’s not included: A full run-cycle diagnostic with live superheat and subcooling readings. If we pick up a refrigerant issue or something that warrants a closer look, we’ll let you know and can escalate to the Platinum Service if needed.
Platinum Service – $350
We run the system through a full cycle under load and take live digital readings – superheat, subcooling, suction and discharge pressures, liquid line temperatures, and full electrical draw. You get a written measurement report of the results.
Good for systems that aren’t performing as they should, units on properties you’re buying or selling, landlords who need documented evidence of system condition, or anyone who wants to know exactly where they stand before a Sydney summer.
What’s included:
- Everything in the Gold Service
- Full loaded run cycle (25 – 35 minutes)
- Live digital refrigerant readings via Testo instruments – superheat, subcooling, suction and discharge pressures, vapor and liquid saturation temps
- Full amp draw on all electrical components
- Written measurement report (example below)
The report tells you precisely how the system is performing. If readings are out of spec, we’ll explain what it means in plain English and what the options are.
Sample Platinum Service Report
This is an example of what you get. Data is from a real job – personal details removed.
| Jay’s Air – Refrigeration Measurement Report | |
|---|---|
| System: Daikin ducted heat pump – 14kW, R32 (RZA140CV1) Date: May 2026 | Run duration: 35 min 15 sec | Ambient temp: 19°C | Technician: Ben |
| Refrigerant Reading | Result |
|---|---|
| Low Pressure (suction) | 1,145 kPa |
| High Pressure (discharge) | 2,757 kPa |
| Suction Line Temperature | 16.0°C |
| Liquid Line Temperature | 44.7°C |
| Vapor Saturation Temp | 14.0°C |
| Liquid Saturation Temp | 46.0°C |
| Superheat | 2.0 K |
| Subcooling | 1.3 K |
| Electrical Reading | Result |
|---|---|
| Compressor amps (clamp) | 13.38A |
Technician notes: Superheat and subcooling both on the low side – possible slight overcharge or metering device running lean under these ambient conditions. System is cooling but worth a recheck under higher summer load. Filters clean, drain clear, coils in good condition.
Air Conditioning Install Prices
Ducted Air Conditioning
Ducted prices depend on home size, roof access, zone count, and the system. Below are realistic price guides based on typical Sydney jobs.
| System size | Typical application | Price guide |
|---|---|---|
| 10kW | 3-bed home, good roof access, 5 – 6 zones | $7,000 – $10,000 |
| 12.5kW | 3 – 4 bed home, 6 – 7 zones | $8,000 – $11,000 |
| 14kW | 4-bed home, 7 – 8 zones | $9,000 – $12,000 |
| 16kW | Large 4 – 5 bed home, 8 – 10 zones | $9,500 – $12,500 |
Prices include supply, installation, grilles, zone controller, and commissioning. They don’t include electrical board upgrades – we’ll flag upfront if that looks likely for your property.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I service my air conditioner?
Once a year for a system that’s running well. If you’re near the coast – Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs – more often is better. Salt air gets into the outdoor unit and does real damage over time.
Is the $150 filter clean worth it?
Yes, if the system is working fine and just needs a clean. A blocked filter makes the system work harder, uses more power, and shortens the life of the unit. It’s the cheapest thing you can do to keep it running properly.
Does a service include a refrigerant top-up?
No. Refrigerant work is separate and requires an ARCtick licence. If you’re losing gas, you’ve got a leak – topping up without fixing the leak is a waste of money. Ben does the diagnostic, we quote the repair, you decide.
Can you service any brand?
Yes. We service Daikin, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, LG, Actron Air, and others. We install Panasonic, Daikin, and Actron Air as our preferred brands.
Do you service ducted systems?
Yes. Ducted systems need the same filter cleans and checks as splits, plus we’ll inspect the ductwork, check zone dampers, and test the return air path. The Gold or Platinum Service makes sense for a ducted system you haven’t had looked at in a few years.
What areas do you cover?
All of greater Sydney. Monday to Friday 7am – 5pm, Saturdays by arrangement. Call (02) 9820 4500.
