Common Panasonic Faults We Fix
H code faults. Panasonic uses H-prefix codes on the Inverter series. H11 is a communication error between indoor and outdoor - often a wiring fault, not a board. H15 is a compressor start-up fault - usually a capacitor, sometimes the compressor itself. H16 is low current detection, which often means low gas. H27 is an outdoor sensor. F11 is the 4-way valve on reverse-cycle models.
Capacitor failures. The most common serious-sounding fault that is actually cheap. If the fan spins but there's no cold air, or you're seeing H15, the capacitor is the first suspect. Usually $150 to $180 fitted.
Low gas (refrigerant leak). Newer Panasonics run R32, older ones R410A. Low gas means a leak - it doesn't use gas up. We find the leak, fix it, then regas. A straight top-up runs $200 to $350.
Fan motors and boards. Bearing wear shows up as squealing after 8 to 12 years. Fan motors run $300 to $500 fitted. Boards are $400 to $700, and we test properly before replacing - half the suspected board faults are actually wiring or sensors.
Nanoe-X faults. On the premium CS-Z series, the air purification system can fault on its own. It's separate from the cooling circuit and usually doesn't stop the unit doing its main job.
H11 - communication error. The indoor and outdoor units have stopped talking. Restart at the isolator for five minutes first. If it returns, the interconnect wiring needs testing - often a corroded joint rather than a board. Typical fix $180 to $400.
H15 - compressor start fault. Usually a failed capacitor, sometimes the compressor itself. We test both before quoting. Capacitor fix is $150 to $180 fitted.
H16 - low current detected. Often means the system is low on gas from a leak. Fix is finding and repairing the leak then regassing - top-ups run $200 to $350.
H19 - indoor fan motor locked. Motor replacement, $300 to $500 fitted with the correct part.
H27 - outdoor air sensor fault. Sensor replacement, around $250 to $300 fitted.
F11 - 4-way valve fault. The valve that switches between heating and cooling. Freed or replaced after proper testing, quoted before work starts.

Quick Panasonic Checks First
Before you book anyone, try these. Turn it off at the isolator next to the outdoor unit, wait five minutes, switch it back on - that clears a lot of one-off H11s. Wash the filters - a choked filter causes half the weak-cooling calls we get. Check the remote is on Cool, not Fan or Dry. If an H code comes straight back after a restart, it's real - write the code down and tell us when you call. It saves diagnosis time and sometimes we can tell you the likely cost over the phone.
