Mitsubishi Electric Repairs

Mitsubishi Electric Faulting or Not Cooling?

We'll Fix It Properly.

Mitsubishi Electric throwing a code or blowing warm? Short version: a service call to find the fault is $250 plus GST, we quote the fix before we start, and most common faults are sorted same visit. We've repaired Mitsubishi Electric gear across Sydney since 1991. 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews.

Mitsubishi Electric is premium gear - the MSZ-AP and MSZ-GL splits and the PEFY and PLFY ducted cassettes are in thousands of Sydney homes, and they're quiet, reliable units worth fixing properly. One check first: if your outdoor unit says Mitsubishi Heavy Industries instead of Mitsubishi Electric, see our MHI page - different company, different parts.

What We See in

Sydney Mitsubishi Electric Systems

    Extreme Heat

Sydney summers push Mitsubishi Electric condensers hard. Capacitors and fan motors cop the worst of it on 40 degree runs.

    Poor Airflow

Packed filters and dirty coils choke the indoor unit. Half the weak-cooling Mitsubishi Electric units we see just need a proper clean.

    Coastal Corrosion

Salt air eats outdoor coils and cabinets near the water. Corroded coils end up leaking gas.

    Heavy Usage

Mitsubishi Electric units that run all day, every day wear parts early. Boards and sensors usually go first.

Common Mitsubishi Electric Faults We Fix

Fault codes. Mitsubishi Electric uses E, P and U codes. E1 is a room sensor, E3 an outdoor sensor, E6 and U4 are communication errors between indoor and outdoor, P1 and P2 are pressure protection, P8 is discharge temperature protection. Older units without a display flash the operation and timer LEDs in a pattern instead.

Communication errors (E6, U4). Usually a loose or corroded connection in the interconnect wiring, not a dead board. We test the wiring and both boards before recommending anything.

Low gas. Current models run R32, which needs accurate charging - overcharging does as much damage as undercharging. We charge to measured superheat and subcooling, not guesswork. Top-ups run $200 to $350.

Heating faults. If a reverse-cycle unit cools fine but won't heat, the usual suspects are low gas or the 4-way valve that switches the refrigerant direction. Both diagnosable, both fixable.

Sensors, fans and boards. Sensors around $250 to $300 fitted, fan motors $300 to $500, boards $400 to $700 with the diagnosis confirmed first.

Mitsubishi Electric Fault Codes and What They Mean

E0 - remote control signal error. Often the controller or its wiring rather than the system. Cheap end of the scale.

E1 - room temperature sensor. Replacement around $250 to $300 fitted.

E3 - outdoor temperature sensor. Around $250 to $300.

E4 - pressure sensor fault. Outdoor unit sensor, tested and replaced. Quoted after diagnosis.

E6 and U4 - communication errors. Indoor and outdoor not talking. Usually interconnect wiring, not a board. Restart first; if it returns, the wiring gets tested. $180 to $400.

P1 and P2 - pressure protection. High or low refrigerant pressure - commonly low gas from a leak. Leak repair plus regas, top-ups $200 to $350.

P8 - discharge temperature protection. The compressor is running too hot, often from low gas or a condenser that can't breathe. Diagnosed properly before quoting.

Older units without a display flash the operation and timer LEDs in a pattern instead. Read us the code on (02) 9820 4500 and we'll tell you the likely fault before we come out.

Quick Mitsubishi Electric Checks First

Restart at the isolator - off five minutes, back on. That clears transient communication errors. Wash the filters. Check the mode and temperature on the remote, and check there's no mode lock set. If you're on MELCloud WiFi control and the app has dropped out, that's usually your router, not the air con. A code that returns after a restart is real - note it and tell us when you call.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS

How We Diagnose Mitsubishi Electric Faults

We don't rely on guesswork, and we don't swap parts until something works. We test the system properly and look at the fault as a whole - operating pressures, temperatures, electrical readings and airflow - then fix the actual cause. Here's how a Mitsubishi Electric diagnosis runs:

  • 00

    Airflow

Filters, coils and fans first. Choked airflow mimics low gas and trips protection codes.

    00

    Electrical

Boards, capacitors and sensors tested properly, not guessed at. Mitsubishi Electric codes point us to the right circuit.

    00

    Refrigerant

Gauges on, pressures read. If it's low it's leaked, so we find the leak before any regas.

U4 code on a Mosman MSZ-AP

Problem

MSZ-AP split dropping out with a U4 communication error every few days. Intermittent faults are the annoying ones.

Diagnosis

Tested the interconnect wiring under load and found a corroded joint moving with temperature. Repaired and resealed the run. $210 and the dropouts stopped for good.

No heating in an Eastwood home

Problem

Mitsubishi Electric ducted cooling perfectly all summer, then refused to heat when winter arrived.

Diagnosis

The 4-way valve wasn't switching over. Freed and tested it, confirmed correct operation through a full heat cycle. $380. If it had needed a new valve we'd have quoted that first.

E1 sensor fault in Strathfield

Problem

MSZ-GL split showing E1 and cycling on and off, never holding temperature.

Diagnosis

Room temperature sensor giving the board garbage readings. Replaced the thermistor, ran a full cycle to confirm. $280 fitted.

Indoor fan grinding - Pennant Hills

Problem

5kW Mitsubishi Electric split with a grinding noise that got worse every week.

Diagnosis

Indoor fan motor bearings were gone. Fitted a genuine replacement motor, balanced and tested it. Quiet as new. $420.

Why We Don't Cut Corners

There's a reason Mitsubishi Electric owners call us back. We don't regas a leaking system and drive off. We don't swap parts on a hunch and bill you for the experiment. And we don't talk you into a new system when a $300 repair will do.

Every Mitsubishi Electric repair starts with a proper diagnosis. Pressures, electricals, airflow, the lot. You get the actual fault and a fixed quote before we touch a spanner. If the maths says repair, we repair it with genuine parts and 12 month warranty on those parts, plus our lifetime workmanship guarantee. If the maths says replace, we'll show you why and quote both ways.

That's how a family business holds a 4.8 star rating across 280+ reviews after 35 years. No shortcuts, no surprises, no subbies.

Repair or Replace Your Mitsubishi Electric?

This is premium gear, so repair wins more often than not. Under 10 years with a sensor, valve, fan or gas fault? Fix it. Past 12 to 15 years with a compressor on the way out? We'll quote the repair and the replacement side by side and tell you straight which way the maths falls.

VISIT PROCESS

What Happens on a Repair Visit

We start with proper diagnosis so we can identify the fault before recommending any repair. That includes checking operation, airflow, drainage, electrical readings, and the way the Mitsubishi Electric system behaves under load.

Once the issue is confirmed, we explain the problem clearly, tell you what needs to change, and give you clear pricing before work begins. If the repair can be completed on the spot, we do it. If parts are required, we organise the next step quickly and keep it straightforward.

FAQs

Mitsubishi Electric Repairs - Common Questions

FAQs

Both are communication errors between the indoor and outdoor units, and they’re often a wiring fault rather than a failed board. A restart sometimes clears a one-off. If it returns, the wiring needs testing.

No. They’re separate companies that both use the Mitsubishi name. Different parts, different procedures. The outdoor unit badge tells you which one you have, and we repair both.

Usually the 4-way valve that reverses the refrigerant flow, low gas, or occasionally just a mode lock on the controller. All three are quick to diagnose properly.

Warranty work has to go through a Mitsubishi Electric authorised agent. Out of warranty, we repair everything. Standard residential warranty is 5 years if it was registered at purchase – check your paperwork before paying for a repair.

Yes. MSZ-AP and MSZ-GL splits, MFZ floor consoles, and the PEFY and PLFY ducted and cassette ranges.
