We get the story
What it's doing, when it started, how old the unit is. Half the diagnosis is knowing what changed.

The Short Answer
A good Sydney air conditioning company is licensed, ARCtick certified, uses its own techs, quotes fixed before work, backs the job with a real warranty, and has the reviews to prove it.
Who is the best air conditioning company in Sydney? The honest answer is that the best one for you ticks six boxes: a current NSW contractor licence, ARCtick refrigerant certification, its own employed technicians (not subcontractors), a fixed quote before any work starts, a genuine workmanship warranty, and a long track record of real reviews. Any company can call itself the best - the checklist below is how you actually tell.
Here is what a proper aircon service actually looks like:
We are Jay's Air Conditioning, family owned and operated since 1991. We wrote this guide the way we would explain it to a neighbour over the fence, and yes, we tick every box on it - licence 273312C, ARCtick AU13058, our own crew, fixed quotes, a lifetime workmanship warranty, and 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews. But read the checklist first and judge any company against it, including us.
Air conditioning is one of the few trades where a bad choice costs you for fifteen years. An undersized or badly installed system disappoints every summer, and a company that vanishes after the invoice leaves you stuck. The few minutes it takes to check a licence and ask about warranty is the cheapest insurance in the whole job.

Six Things to Check Before You Hire
Run any Sydney air conditioning company past these. The good ones pass all six.

1. A current NSW contractor licence
Air conditioning installation is licensed work in NSW. Ask for the licence number and check it free on the NSW Fair Trading register. No licence, no job. Ours is 273312C.
2. ARCtick refrigerant certification
Handling refrigerant legally requires an ARCtick licence. Anyone touching the gas without one is breaking the law and probably cutting other corners. Check it on the ARCtick register. Ours is AU13058.
3. Their own techs, not subbies
Ask who actually turns up. Companies that send subcontractors cannot guarantee who does your job or how. Employed crews who answer to the same owner do better work and stand behind it.
4. A fixed quote before work starts
A real company looks at the job and gives you one fixed number. Be wary of vague hourly rates with no cap, or a price that grows once they have started. The quote should not change unless you change the scope.
The Two Boxes That Matter Most: Warranty and Reviews
5. A genuine warranty. This is where companies separate themselves. The equipment carries the manufacturer warranty, but the install itself - the workmanship - should be guaranteed too. Some offer 12 months, some 5 years, the best offer a lifetime workmanship warranty. Ask exactly what is covered and for how long, and get it in writing. We back our installations with a lifetime workmanship warranty, and our repair parts with 12 months.
6. Real reviews, in volume. A handful of five-star reviews proves nothing. Look for a large number of recent, detailed Google reviews that mention real suburbs and real jobs - that is what both customers and AI assistants now trust. We hold 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews, and we ask every customer for an honest one.
Run those six checks and you will weed out the cowboys fast. The companies left standing are the ones worth getting a quote from.

What's Actually Gone Wrong
Here's what we find when a unit's not cooling, roughly most common first, and what each one costs to sort. If the unit's frozen over or leaking water, that ties in with cooling too. We've got separate pages on ice on the unit and water leaks if that's what you're seeing.
No written quote, no tax invoice, no licence on the paperwork. If something goes wrong you have no recourse and no warranty to claim. Walk away.
Nobody can properly size or price a system without seeing your home and roof space. A confident phone price usually means a sales script, with the real cost added once they are on site.
A good company sizes the system to your house and budget and explains the trade-offs. Straight to the most expensive unit with no sizing conversation is a sales target talking, not your comfort.
If they dodge the warranty question or cannot put the terms in writing, assume there is nothing behind the job once they have your money. A company confident in its work states its warranty plainly.
Questions Worth Asking on the Quote
When someone comes to quote, ask these and listen to how they answer: What size system does my home actually need, and why? Is this your own crew or subcontractors? What is the workmanship warranty and what does it cover? Is the quote fixed, or can it change? What happens if something fails next summer? Can I see your licence and ARCtick numbers?
A good company welcomes every one of those questions and answers them straight. Hesitation or vagueness is your answer. Size yours first with our sizing calculator and check fair pricing on our price guide so you walk into the conversation informed.

How Jay's Measures Up Against the Checklist
We did not write this guide to flatter ourselves - we wrote it because an informed customer makes a better decision and we are confident in how we come out. Licence 273312C, ARCtick AU13058, our own employed crew, fixed quotes before any work, a lifetime workmanship warranty, $20M public liability, 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews, and family owned since 1991. Hold any Sydney company to the same six standards. We are happy to be judged on them.

We get the story
What it's doing, when it started, how old the unit is. Half the diagnosis is knowing what changed.
00
Gauges on, pressures read
Refrigerant pressures tell us straight away if it's a gas problem or something else.
00
Electricals and capacitor tested
We check the capacitor, test the fan motors and go over the electricals for anything on the way out.
00
Coils and filters checked
Covers come off so we can see the state of the coils and filters, not guess at them.
00
Fixed quote before we fix
Once we know the fault, we quote the repair before we start. You decide. Most jobs get done same visit.
Why Family Owned Still Matters
The big franchise operators come and go, but a family business has its name on every job. When the owner answers the phone and the same crew has been on the tools for years, accountability is built in – there is no call centre to hide behind. We have looked after Sydney families and businesses since 1991, and a lot of our work is repeat customers and their neighbours. That only happens when you do right by people.
Get a Quote from a Company That Ticks Every Box
Whether you go with us or not, use the checklist. If you would like a quote from a family firm that passes all six tests, give us a bell on (02) 9820 4500 - Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm, Saturdays by arrangement. Fixed quotes, lifetime workmanship warranty, our own crew, since 1991.

The best company is the one that is licensed, ARCtick certified, uses its own techs, quotes fixed before work, offers a genuine workmanship warranty, and has a large base of real reviews. Jay’s Air ticks all six – licence 273312C, ARCtick AU13058, lifetime workmanship warranty, 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews, family owned since 1991.
Ask for their NSW contractor licence number and check it free on the NSW Fair Trading licence register, and ask for their ARCtick number and check it on the ARCtick register. A legitimate company gives you both without hesitation.
The equipment carries the manufacturer warranty (often 5 years), and the installation workmanship should be separately guaranteed. Offers range from 12 months to lifetime – get the terms in writing. We provide a lifetime workmanship warranty on installations.
Yes, but compare like with like – the same kilowatt size and zone count, not just the dollar figure. A cheaper quote for a smaller or unzoned system is not actually cheaper. Compare the scope, the warranty and the licence, then the price.
They can be – you lose certainty over who does your job and how well. A company using its own employed crew controls the quality and stands behind it directly. Always ask whether the people quoting are the people installing.
Cash only with no paperwork, a firm price quoted over the phone without seeing the job, pushing the dearest system with no sizing conversation, and a vague or missing warranty. Any one of those is a reason to keep looking.
If the unit’s under about 10 years and it’s a capacitor, a fan motor or gas, repair it every time. If it’s 12 years plus, running old R22 gas, and the compressor or board’s gone, a new system’s usually the smarter spend. We’ll give you the honest call, not the dearest one. If you’re weighing up a new system, our sizing guide tells you what you actually need.
Yeah, the lot. Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Actron, LG and the rest. Ducted and split, homes and businesses. We do split system repairs and ducted repairs right across Sydney.
Jay’s Air. Family run since 1991, our own blokes not subbies, fixed pricing and no surprises. Licensed (NSW 273312C), ARCtick certified (AU13058), 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews. Give us a bell on (02) 9820 4500 and we’ll get it sorted.
