Covering Hornsby and the Upper North Shore.
Ducted for the big brick homes, splits for the townhouses, and plenty of repairs on systems that have done a decade or two.

Hornsby is a regular run for us. The housing is solid - full brick family homes on good blocks, townhouses filling in around the station, and the bushland edges that keep the place leafy. The systems here work a strange double shift: shaded and easy most of the year, then flogged through a heatwave week when the trees stop helping. We build and repair for that.

30+ Years

Mostly 60s to 90s full brick and brick veneer with proper roof spaces - ducted country. Townhouse and villa complexes from the 90s on run splits, and the unit blocks near the station are split and multi-head territory. A good share of the houses carry ducted systems from the 2000s that are now on the clock.

About Us

Air Conditioning in Hornsby

After air conditioning in Hornsby? Jay's Air has been doing it since 1991. A typical 4-bedroom Hornsby brick home takes a 12.5kW ducted system at $8,000 to $11,000, the bigger places 14kW at $9,000 to $12,000. A 2.5kW split for a townhouse bedroom is $1,800 to $2,100. Fault-finding is $250 plus GST with the fix quoted before we start. 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews.

Repair or replace? The honest line: a repair over $600 on a unit past 15 years is money better put toward a new system. Hornsby has plenty of 2000s ducted gear sitting either side of that line, so we quote both ways and tell you straight.

Shade trees flatter a tired system - until the heatwave

Hornsby's tree cover keeps houses comfortable enough that a struggling system hides for months. Then a 40 degree week arrives, the shade stops carrying it, and the weak cooling shows up all at once. If last summer's bad week felt worse than it should have, get the system checked before the next one - it's usually airflow, gas or a tired capacitor, all cheap to fix in October.

The townhouses and units want splits done tidy - a 2.5kW bedroom unit at $1,800 to $2,100 or a 5kW living area at $2,500 to $3,000, with strata handled where it applies. Size anything before you buy with our sizing calculator and check the pricing guide.

Hornsby tops our North Shore run. We also cover Pennant Hills, Chatswood and Ryde.

Ducted Air Conditioning in Hornsby

Most of the ducted air conditioning Hornsby orders from us is either a first install into a full brick home with a good roof space, or a replacement for a 2000s system that's done its time. Mick has run our ducted installs since 2009. Existing duct runs get reused where they're sound, which keeps replacements at the sensible end. Fixed quote before we start, lifetime workmanship warranty.

Why Hornsby Calls Jay's

Because the quote is fixed, the work is tidy and nobody tries to sell you a system you don't need. If a $170 capacitor fixes it, that's what you hear.

Mick Daly runs the ducted work and has since 2009. Noah Hall does the splits and townhouse jobs. Ben handles diagnostics, and for air conditioning repairs Hornsby gets a straight answer on repair versus replace every time.

Credentials: in business since 1991, 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews, NSW licence 273312C, ARCtick AU13058, $20M public liability. We install Panasonic, Daikin and Actron and repair every brand.

Ducted replacement in a full brick 4-bedder

Problem

Full brick home with a 2005 ducted system - weak air upstairs, bills creeping, and the outdoor unit louder every summer.

Diagnosis

Mick fitted a 14kW Panasonic inverter with 5 zones, reusing the sound duct runs and replacing two crushed flexible sections found in the roof. Two days, $11,200 fixed, lifetime workmanship warranty.

Split for a townhouse main bedroom

Problem

Townhouse near the station, main bedroom under a dark roof that held heat all night. Strata wanted the outdoor unit kept off the front elevation.

Diagnosis

Noah fitted a 2.5kW Panasonic with the outdoor unit tucked into the side courtyard per strata, pipe run concealed. Half a day, $1,990.

Daikin ducted icing up after the leaves came down

Problem

Daikin ducted blowing weak air with ice on the lines. The outdoor unit was packed solid with autumn leaf litter off the gums.

Diagnosis

Ben cleared and cleaned the condenser, checked the gas was still where it should be, and got airflow back to spec. $250 service call covered it - no parts needed. Keep the unit clear of leaves and it won't repeat.

FAQs

Air Conditioning Hornsby - Common Questions

FAQs

A typical 4-bedroom Hornsby brick home runs $8,000 to $11,000 for 12.5kW, the bigger two-storey places $9,000 to $12,000 for 14kW. Replacements come in cheaper when the existing duct runs are sound. Fixed quote first.

Hornsby’s shade carries a weak system for most of summer. In a heatwave the system finally has to do its full job, and low gas, dirty coils or an undersized unit show up all at once. A pre-summer service catches it early.

Yes, constantly. A 2.5kW bedroom split is $1,800 to $2,100 installed and we handle the strata requirements – outdoor unit placement is usually the sticking point and we know what the local schemes accept.

Air Conditioning Advice for Hornsby Homeowners

If your ducted system went in during the 2000s, have the duct runs checked when you service it. Cooked or crushed flex duct steals capacity quietly, and finding it before a replacement means the new system is quoted right the first time.

Townhouse owners: check the strata bylaws on outdoor unit placement before getting quotes. It's the one thing that delays Hornsby split installs, and it's avoidable with one email to the strata manager.
