Covering Chatswood and the North Shore.
Apartment splits and multi-heads dominate here, with ducted work in the older brick homes off the highway.

Chatswood runs two kinds of jobs and we do both weekly. The towers and unit blocks around the station want splits and multi-heads with strata done properly. The brick homes on the quiet streets either side want ducted - plenty of them still running systems from the 2000s. We've serviced the North Shore for decades and the strata managers know our paperwork turns up correct.

About Us

30+ Years

Housing here splits clean down the middle: high-rise and mid-rise apartments thick around the CBD and station, and solid 50s to 80s brick homes with good rooflines on the residential streets. Big trees, shaded blocks, and a market that expects tidy work - pipe runs out of sight, outdoor units placed properly, no shortcuts.

About Us

Air Conditioning in Chatswood

After air conditioning in Chatswood? Jay's Air has been doing it since 1991. For an apartment, a 2.5kW split runs $1,800 to $2,100 installed and a three-room multi-head $6,500 to $8,500. For a 4-bedroom house on the quiet streets, ducted runs $8,000 to $11,000 for 12.5kW. Fault-finding is $250 plus GST with the fix quoted before we start. 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews.

Apartment owners, the strata question first: yes, most Chatswood buildings allow splits with conditions - outdoor unit placement, drainage, sometimes noise ratings. We deal with North Shore strata schemes every week, we know what they ask for, and the paperwork comes from us, not from you chasing it.

Multi-heads are the Chatswood apartment answer

Most units here have one balcony and two or three rooms that need cooling. A multi-head runs all of them off a single outdoor unit - one strata approval, one tidy install, $6,500 to $8,500 for three rooms. It beats two separate splits on looks, approvals and noise.

Pie chart showing heating and cooling accounts for 20 to 50 percent of home electricity use in Australian homes

For the houses, the story is the same as much of the North Shore: good homes with ducted systems from the 2000s heading toward the end. Replacements reuse sound duct runs and land around $8,000 to $11,000 for most 4-bedders. Check your numbers on the sizing calculator and the pricing guide first.

Chatswood anchors our North Shore run. We also cover Ryde, Eastwood and North Sydney, so a van's never far.

Air Conditioning Repairs in Chatswood

The air conditioning repairs Chatswood sends us split by housing type: apartment units with blocked drains leaking down walls, splits losing gas from balcony pipe runs, and the older ducted systems in the houses with tired capacitors, fan motors and boards. Common fixes run $120 to $500, quoted before we start, with 12 month warranty on parts, plus our lifetime workmanship guarantee. Ben handles the diagnostics.

Why Chatswood Calls Jay's

Because the work is tidy and the pricing is fixed. On the North Shore both matter - strata committees want installers who do it properly, and nobody anywhere wants a quote that grows.

Mick Daly runs the ducted installs and replacements and has since 2009. Noah Hall handles the apartment work, and split system installation Chatswood unit owners book is most of his North Shore week. Ben does quotes and diagnostics himself.

Multi-head for a three-bedroom apartment

Problem

Three-bed apartment near the station with one west-facing balcony and no cooling anywhere. Strata wanted one outdoor unit maximum and noise specs met.

Diagnosis

Noah fitted a Panasonic multi-head - one balcony unit running three indoor heads, all pipe runs concealed, strata paperwork lodged and approved before we started. $7,400 fixed.

Ducted replacement on a tree street

Problem

Solid 1960s brick home with a 2004 ducted system on its last summer - weak airflow, climbing bills, and a compressor that sounded like a tradie's ute.

Diagnosis

Mick replaced it with a 14kW Panasonic inverter with 5 zones, reusing the sound duct runs and upgrading the return air. Two days, $10,900 fixed, lifetime workmanship warranty.

Fujitsu split squealing in a unit

Problem

Fujitsu split in a mid-rise unit squealing on startup and getting worse, owner worried about the neighbours as much as the unit.

Diagnosis

Ben confirmed indoor fan motor bearings on the way out. Replaced the motor with the correctly matched part before it seized. $430 fitted, quiet again, neighbours none the wiser.

FAQs

Air Conditioning Chatswood - Common Questions

FAQs

Almost always yes, and most schemes approve splits with conditions on outdoor unit placement and drainage. We handle North Shore strata paperwork weekly and sort it as part of the quote.

A 2.5kW split for one room is $1,800 to $2,100 installed. A multi-head covering three rooms off one outdoor unit runs $6,500 to $8,500 – usually the smarter buy in a unit with one balcony.

$8,000 to $11,000 for a 12.5kW system in a typical 4-bedder, up to 14kW around $9,000 to $12,000 for the bigger homes. Replacing a 2000s system is usually cheaper than a first install because the ducts get reused.

Air Conditioning Advice for Chatswood Homeowners

The shaded blocks here flatter undersized systems for most of the year, then expose them in a heatwave when the trees can't help. Size for the hot week, not the mild month - the sizing calculator gives you the number in two minutes.

And on apartment installs, placement is everything: condensate drainage done right, outdoor units off the bedroom wall, pipe runs concealed. It's the difference between an install you forget about and one you argue with strata over.
