Haberfield's Federation homes are ducted-capable - and the older systems in the suburb are well overdue for replacement.

Haberfield is one of Sydney's best-preserved Federation suburbs. The homes are mostly 1910s to 1930s full-brick bungalows and villas on generous blocks. They have deep roof cavities - most can take ducted without a problem. We do a steady stream of ducted replacements on systems from the late 80s and 90s, and some first-time ducted installs in homes that relied on window units or ceiling fans for decades.

30+ Years

Haberfield housing is predominantly 1910s-1930s Federation brick bungalows and villas on 500-700sqm blocks. The suburb is a heritage conservation area, so external work has some constraints - we know how to install without affecting the character of these homes. Roof space is typically good for ducted.

Heritage Homes in Haberfield and What Suits Them

Federation brick homes have deep roof cavities - ducted works well. The ceiling heights are generous too, which gives us more options for indoor unit placement. The main constraint in Haberfield is the heritage conservation requirements for external works. Outdoor units need to be placed where they're not visible from the street, and we've done enough jobs here to know exactly what's acceptable.

FAQs

Yes – in most Haberfield Federation homes we can run the new ductwork through the existing roof cavity without touching the original ceilings. We use the same access points as the old system where possible. We’ll confirm this at the inspection stage before you commit.

If it’s over three decades old and on R22 refrigerant, replace it. R22 is no longer manufactured and repairs are expensive. A modern system will use less power and cool more evenly. We’ll give you a straight call at the inspection – no pressure either way.

Air Conditioning Advice for Haberfield Homeowners

If you have a rear addition or granny flat on your Haberfield property, ducted may not reach it. A standalone split in the addition is the clean fix - 3.5kW suits a home office or bedroom, 5kW covers an open-plan addition.

For whole-home ducted, plan the outdoor unit position early. Rear of garage or behind a fence is the standard approach in this heritage conservation area. Our pricing guide has replacement and new-install costs side by side.
