Covering Cronulla and the Sutherland Shire.
Salt air is the story here - it eats outdoor units, so the right gear and the right placement matter more than anywhere else we work.

Cronulla is the toughest postcode in our service area for outdoor units, and we treat it that way. Salt air corrodes coils, fins and fasteners years ahead of schedule, and the difference between a unit that lasts 8 years and one that lasts 15 is what you buy and where you put it. We've been doing the beach end of the Shire long enough to know both.

30+ Years

Housing splits three ways: apartment blocks thick along the beach and around the mall (strata, splits, multi-heads), older brick and weatherboard beach houses on the back streets, and rebuilt two-storey family homes running full ducted. All of it within smelling distance of salt water, which drives every recommendation we make.

About Us

Air Conditioning in Cronulla

After air conditioning in Cronulla? Jay's Air has been doing it since 1991. A 2.5kW split for an apartment bedroom is $1,800 to $2,100 installed, a three-room multi-head $6,500 to $8,500, and a 12.5kW ducted system for a 4-bedroom house $8,000 to $11,000. Fault-finding is $250 plus GST, fix quoted before we start. 4.8 stars from 280+ reviews.

The Cronulla question first: yes, salt air genuinely shortens outdoor unit life, and no, not every brand handles it the same. We spec coastal-rated units with treated coils for anything close to the water, and we place outdoor units out of the direct salt path wherever the site allows. It's the cheapest durability upgrade there is.

Salt air is eating your outdoor unit

The corrosion pattern is always the same: fins powder up, fasteners rust, then the coil starts leaking gas years before the compressor was due to die. If your outdoor unit is beachside and over 8 years old, get the coil looked at before summer - a $250 service tells you whether it's got years left or it's quietly bleeding refrigerant.

Six-point aircon checklist before peak season - clean filters, clear outdoor unit, set thermostat, close doors, check vents, book a service

Apartment owners: strata rules along the beachfront are stricter than average about outdoor unit visibility and noise, and we deal with the local schemes all the time. A multi-head off one outdoor unit usually clears approval easiest. Size first with the sizing calculator, prices on the pricing guide.

Air Conditioning Repairs in Cronulla

Most of the air conditioning repairs Cronulla sends us trace back to salt: corroded coils leaking gas, seized outdoor fan motors, rusted electrical connections playing up intermittently. We carry the diagnosis gear to tell corrosion damage from normal faults, quote before we work, and we're honest when a corroded unit isn't worth saving. Common fixes run $150 to $500, parts warrantied 12 months.

Why Cronulla Calls Jay's

Because we spec for the salt instead of pretending it isn't there. Coastal-rated units, treated coils, smart placement, stainless fixings where it counts - the boring details that decide how long your system lives at the beach.

Mick Daly runs the ducted installs and has since 2009. Noah Hall does the splits and apartment work, and split system installation Cronulla strata boards approve is his specialty. Ben handles the diagnostics.

Corroded coil leaking gas near the esplanade

Problem

Split system two streets from the water, cooling fading over a season. Owner had been quoted a regas by phone with no inspection.

Diagnosis

Multi-head for a beachfront apartment

Problem

Two-bed apartment on the beachfront, no cooling, strata strict on outdoor unit visibility and noise.

Diagnosis

Noah fitted a Panasonic multi-head - one coastal-rated outdoor unit on the balcony return, two indoor heads. Strata paperwork lodged and approved first. $6,800 fixed.

Ducted install in a rebuilt two-storey

Problem

Knock-down rebuild a few streets back from the beach, family wanted whole-home cooling that would actually survive the location.

Diagnosis

Mick fitted a 14kW Daikin ducted with 5 zones, outdoor unit positioned on the leeward side away from the salt path. $11,400 fixed, lifetime workmanship warranty.

FAQs

Air Conditioning Cronulla - Common Questions

FAQs

Yes – it corrodes the outdoor coil and fasteners and can halve the unit’s life within a few streets of the water. Coastal-rated units with treated coils and smart placement largely fix it, and that’s what we spec here.

A 2.5kW split is $1,800 to $2,100 installed, a three-room multi-head $6,500 to $8,500, and ducted for a 4-bedder $8,000 to $11,000. Coastal-rated gear sits at the same prices or barely above – it’s placement and spec, not a surcharge.

Almost always, and beachfront schemes are stricter than most about visibility and noise. We handle the paperwork and know what the local blocks accept. Multi-heads off one outdoor unit usually approve easiest.

Air Conditioning Advice for Cronulla Homeowners

If your outdoor unit is beachside and past 8 years, get the coil inspected before summer rather than waiting for the cooling to fade. Corroded coils leak gas slowly - you pay in power bills long before you notice warm air.

Placement beats everything on new installs. Leeward side of the house, off the direct sea breeze, up off splash level. We pick the spot during the quote and it costs nothing extra.
